Makeup Geek Eyeshadow & Blush Review & Swatches

shadows2

Back in November, I purchased 14 Makeup Geek Eyeshadows, 2 blushes, and a large Z Palette to put them in. It ended up being a pretty big purchase, $130. After hearing so many people rave about these shadows and seeing them in almost every single one of Jaclyn Hill’s Youtube videos, I decided to finally get some myself. I really had no idea of what I wanted, I looked at every single color and looked up swatches and favorites from other bloggers/youtubers. I’m really happy with the ones I picked out, and I have marked a few of my favorites for you all below. My “favorites” have a heart above the swatch, most of them I use every single day. I do love all of the colors though, just some are better for everyday wear. For some reason, I didn’t take a picture of the blushes in this palette before I started using it, but there is a swatch of them at the bottom!

Eyeshadow Pans: $5.99 each
Blush Pans: $9.99 each
Large, Black Z Palette: $20.00

firstIce Queen: Love this shade for inner corner and under the brow highlight!
Peach Smoothie: One of my all time favorites! I use this almost everyday as a transition and blending color.
Glamorous: Beautiful bronzy-shimmer color for the lid!
Cocoa Bear: Another all time fav, I personally use it in the outer edges of the eye. It’s the perfect warm-tone brown.

secondMocha: Usually use this color in my crease, and to create the “outer v” shape on smokey eyes.
Vanilla Bean: Gorgeous off-white color, looks beautiful on the inner half of the lid and under the brow.
Beaches & Cream: LOVE THIS SHADE. It’s few shades lighter than Peach Smoothie, I use this one too as a transition/all over lid color.
Creme Brulee: Another perfect warm brown color. It’s not as dark as Cocoa Bear, but very similar.

ThirdLatte: Yet another warm toned brown. Although these all seem similar, they each give a very different look when applied onto the eye.
Barcelona Beach: This one isn’t as warm in tone, and it looks really good when going for a darker eye look.
Shimma Shimma: FAVORITE inner corner highlight. It’s just so beautiful and shimmery, I LOVE it.
Cinderella: Very similar to Shimma Shimma, just tinted pink. It’s very beautiful and girly.

fourthCosmopolitan: I’ve gotten SO many compliments on this eyeshadow. I use my Mac Fix+ to wet it after I have some on a brush, and just pack it onto my lid. It looks beautiful in combination with Coca Bear!
Mercury: Although I don’t personally use this shade much, it is a really pretty space grey/silver color. I have been trying to stay away from super dark colors and black…since that is all I used to wear in high school!
Spell Bound (Blush): I fell in love with this blush the first time I used it. Its the most perfect shade for me and looks really good with the shadows I marked as favorites.
First Love (Blush): When I ordered this, I expected it to look different when actually wearing it. Personally, I don’t think this blush can be worn alone. Sometimes I mix it with a little bit of Spell Bound, or use it as a soft highlight right above Spell Bound, but never alone. It’s just way too pale in my opinion.

I’m so glad I finally ended up purchasing these. Although it can start to add up in price, in the long run you will save money because you are just buying shades that you want. I know I have tons of palettes that have 8+ colors in them and I only use 2-4. Now I can pick exactly what colors I want and when I hit pan, I can just order another one for $5.99! Can’t beat that!

Urban Decay – Naked On The Run: Swatches & Review

naked

Ahhhh, I LOVE Urban Decay! I own every Naked palette and will probably continue to own them in the future, they are by far my most favorite eyeshadows. I pre-ordered my Naked On The Run palette from Sephora.com the day it was released. It costs $54 and includes 6 eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, lipgloss, eyeliner, and mascara. I think its an awesome palette and it’s so convenient to have it all confined to one simple case!

I know I don’t have the best quality pictures, but for what it is, the color payoff is great. I’m happy they included matte shades to balance out the shimmery ones. These colors will create an amazing smokey eye, I’m beyond excited to start using it often!

lipgloss– 0.13 oz Full-Size Naked Ultra Nourishing Gloss Lip Gloss
Sesso (rose/pink shimmer)

eyeliner– 0.03 oz 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
Stag (deep brown satin)

mascara– 0.13 oz Perversion Mascara
Blackest Black

Overall, so far I am completely happy with this palette. At first, I thought the bronzer was going to be very light and have an orange tint to it, but when I actually tried it on it was just perfect. I love love love the blush in the palette too. The 5050 shadow is being mistaken by some people for a highlight, but it is indeed an eyeshadow. It can be used as a highlight tough, I suppose! I was super excited to get another Perversion Mascara. I previously had gotten a sample size from Ipsy and instantly fell in love with it. I’m also really stoked to try out the new Stag eyeliner. It will complement these shadows so well. Definitely worth the money for me!!

Moda VoxBox: October/November 2014

IMG_6345

I was BEYOND excited when I received an email saying I was eligible for the Moda VoxBox. I had also received the previous Vitality VoxBox, but it definitely wasn’t as awesome as this one! If you’re interested in getting a VoxBox check out Influenster.com, it’s totally free and you basically just post reviews about products. I didn’t have to pay ANYTHING and all the reviews you give are your own honest opinions. I’m so happy I received this box because it had many things that I actually will use in it. Thanks Influenster!

IMG_6353

• Clairol, Hair Food: $14.99

I had never heard of this product before, it’s apparently new. I wasn’t too sure how to use it either, the bottle said to use on damp hair, comb, and wash out. I decided to use it in the shower and now I use it twice a week instead of my conditioner. It makes my hair feel sooooo soft, I love it! I will for sure be using the coupon I received to purchase other products in this line.

IMG_6387

• Swiss Miss, Simply Cocoa: $2.29 per box

Now that we have entered the winter months, this was a nice treat to get in my VoxBox. I’m sure I will end up using it, because the Keurig hot chocolates just aren’t cutting it for me.

IMG_6367

• Rimmel London, ScandalEyes Rockin’ Curves Mascara- #003 Extreme Black: $5.99

I was SO EXCITED to see beauty items in this box! I’m a makeup fanatic and I’ve been waiting for a VoxBox that included makeup. Honestly though, I was a bit disappointed with this mascara. I thought it would be amazing but in reality, the brush was just too large and couldn’t coat my lashes properly. I felt as if barely any product was getting on them.

IMG_6365

• Rimmel London, Moisture Renew Lipstick- #360 As You Want Victoria: $6.99

At first the color turned me off of this lipstick. I don’t think reds or dark colors look good on me. I usually am always wearing a nude, pink, or peach colored lipstick. But when I tried this color on for the first time I didn’t think it looked that bad on me. I did end up giving it my mom though, since she likes colors like this and needed a lipstick anyways. The formula was awesome, and I wouldn’t be against looking at other colors from this line of lipstick!

IMG_6380

• Rimmel London, Moisture Renew Lip Liner- Universal Transparent Lip Liner: $5.99

At first I thought this was a white eyeliner and I was ecstatic. I don’t really use lipliners too much, but I was willing to give this one a try. I would describe it as more of a lip primer, I guess. It made my lipstick last longer and helped it not bleed out from my lips. I don’t see myself using it everyday, but on occasions i definitely will!

IMG_6373

• Resource, Natural Spring Water: $1.49

I’ve never heard of this brand before, and it just tasted like normal water! Not too much to say about it…

IMG_6382

• Jergens, Ultra Healing Lotion: $5.99

I love little baby travel size bottles of stuff! Not kidding, I’ve been asked about 3 times if I have lotion in my purse from people in my classes in the past month. Well, now I do! My hands get dry in the winter, so the timing was perfect on this one.

IMG_6355

• Puffs, Soft Pack Tissues: $2.49

Everyone needs travel tissues! I ended up putting one of the packages in my car, since I always need a tissue and never have one. These are just the basic tissues, not ones infused with lotion or anything like that. But they are still soft!

Ipsy Glam Bag Subscription: October 2014

ipsyoctober

I LOVE ipsy, it’s by far my favorite and best makeup subscription website. I’ve been subscribed for a little over a year now, and have gotten so many goodies that are definitely worth the money! If you don’t know what ipsy is, basically you pay $10 a month for a custom glambag filled with 4-5 products based on your taste profile. Sometimes you get products you love, and sometimes you don’t. But, I love trying new products and I feel like for only $10, it’s worth it to me. I also love the little collection of makeup bags that I have now! If you want to check out and join ipsy, whether you ever subscribe or not, please click HERE so I will gain points! There is a waiting list, so i suggest signing up now rather than later. Thank you in advance! wink

Here is what I received in my October 2014 ipsy bag:

 IMG_5965

KISS – iENVYbyKISS Lashes, Beyond Naturale Demi Wispies:

I was SO HAPPY when I saw these in my bag! There were other lashes that were being given out that were really unnatural looking and thick. I never would have worn them. So when I saw I got these, I was excited. I don’t wear falsies too often but when I do I will definitely be picking up these!

IMG_5962

Ayres – Patagonia Body Butter:

I like the smell of this body butter. It’s not really scented, it just has a natural fresh smell to it. I like the cute little jar it came in too!

IMG_5970

Starlooks Lip Gloss, Guilty Pleasure:

I was a little disappointed by the size of this product. In the past, Starlooks has always given full size items. But still, the lip gloss is a cute pink shade that I will certainly use.

IMG_5956

Épicé International – Purifying Exfoliant:

I loveeeeeee exfoliators! I’ve gotten a few from ipsy and have used them all. I tend to get dry skin on my nose, which can make my makeup look bad around that area. So I’m really glad I got this in my bag!

FullSizeRender-1

MicaBeauty – Mineral Eye Shadow, Harlequin:

I really do like the formula and pigment of these eyeshadows. I’m just not a fan of this color. It’s like…a metallic-y grey/green. I can see myself using it in small doses, though! I love the shimmer in the eyeshadow too.

Thanks for reading and be sure to check out ipsy!

Full Face Drugstore Favorites

RIMMEL LONDON Stay Matte Foundation ($4.99)

I was SO weary about this foundation at first, I mean…it’s probably the cheapest foundation I have ever seen. But, I had heard a few reviews on it which were positive so I decided to give it a try myself. When you first squeeze it out of the tube it seems VERY thick, it’s basically a cream. A little goes a long long way. Honestly though, I really do love it! It has amazing coverage and although it’s “matte” it doesn’t make my skin look awful. I don’t really have dry nor oily skin, but I don’t like the dewy look, I feel like it just makes me look gross and sweaty. So for that reason this foundation gives me the perfect finish.

REVLON Age Defying Targeted Dark Spot Concealer Treatment ($12.99 YIKES)

First off, $12 is quite a bit, for me, to be paying for a drug store concealer. I definitely was looking at the wrong price tag and did not realize until I was already home later that day. But…it is a really good concealer and I use it every single day. I purchased the lightest shade in the line, and its tinted a bit yellow. It’s great for highlighting underneath your eyes and hiding dark circles. I also use it on any blemishes I have that may be red or dark. The yellowness in the product really helps with canceling out these colors.

RIMMEL LONDON Stay Matte Pressed Powder ($4.99)

I’ve used this powder way before I ever purchased the foundation. It has always been one of my favorites for setting my foundation and concealer. As I stated earlier, I do not like the dewy look to my skin. So patting a bit of this powder over my face really reduces the shine that I dislike. You can get the powder in a translucent color, but i prefer the colored version just to add that little extra touch of coverage!

NYX Powder Blush in Pinched ($5.99)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE these blushes! It was really hard to just pick one for this post. I had to go with Pinched- I mean I accidentally bought it twice because I loved the color so much. It’s a beautiful peachy color, many say its a dupe for NAR’s Orgasm. Hands down these NYX blushes are some of my all time favorites, I use them every single day.

 NYX Matte Body Bronzer ($8.99)
Honestly, I have yet to find a drug store bronzer that i absolutely love. If I had to   choose one though, it would definitely be the NYX matte bronzer. It can look a bit orangey on some skin tones hough, so be careful! I use this bronzer to contour my cheekbones, forehead, nose, and jawline. If you’re not looking to contour, just simply give your face some color, this is not the bronzer for you.

Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki ($9.00)

BEST (only??). DRUGSTORE. HIGHLIGHT. EVER. Not exaggerating here, this product is awesome. It gives off just a touch of gold shimmer, but isn’t over powering at all. I apply it to the tops of the cheekbones, center of my nose, cupids bow, brow bone, and the inner corners of my eyes.

L’ORÉAL Telescopic Mascara ($9.99)

This mascara is probably my favorite one ever. The length it will give your lashes is UNREAL. The thin brush ensures that you will hit every single lash, and makes it super easy to coat your bottom lashes too! I went back and forth on whether or not to buy this product, I mean I have TONS of mascaras already so it felt like just a waste of $10. I’m SO glad I did! Not a day goes by that I don’t use it. You can pair this with a volumizing mascara if you really want your lashes to pop.

NYX Round Case Lipstick in Pure Nude ($3.99)

Another product by NYX that I’m in love with! I have tons of these lipsticks. They are amazing and so so so affordable! I absolutely love nude lips- especially pink and peach nudes. This lipstick is peach based and is just beautiful. (Honorable mention to my other favorite lipstick shade in this collection: Harmonica, such a pretty frosty pink color!).

NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel ($4.99)

Yes I know, you’ve probably seen these suckers everywhere. But really, they are amazing. I love this shade because it’s neutral and doesn’t block out the color of the lipstick underneath. These can even be worn alone and give off the perfect amount of color. Definitely pick up a few if you ever get a chance!

Let me know your current drugstore favorites!
